What Is An Electric Fence Energizer ?

Electric Fence Energizer (locally called elephant fence circuit / Electric Pambaya-විදුලි පඹයා ) is an electronic device that converts mains or battery power into a high voltage pulse. Most energizers pulse onto an insulated fence line about once every second. ( It means pulse interval is once per second) The pulse itself is only around 180 milliseconds long. (It means pulse width is 180 milliseconds) This pulse is commonly referred to as a “shock”. When an animal touches the electrified fence lines it will be shocked. These shocks are not physically harmful to animals and never kill them. But shocks are painful. Most energizers generate from 3000v (3KV ) to 10,000v (10KV) and below 400mA on no-load situations. Energizers are suitable to protect your crops and properties from almost all animals.
Installation of the energizer is not a difficult task. It has two output terminals. One is to fence lines and another one is to the earthling. When the animal make the contact with electrified fencing wires, then the circuit is complete, current flows through the animal body and receives shocks.
An electric fence is a Psychology barrier rather than a physical barrier. When an animal gets shocked, and pain, then it learns to respect the fence. Later it never comes toward the fence.
If the electric fence gets short circuit long time, the energizer drops the voltage remarkably or up to zero voltage. Then the fence is under less protection and the fence will be physically damaged by animals easily. Its the responsibility of the landowner to prevent short circuits on the fence, and keep proper clearance beside the fence.
A lot of locally made energizers have no standard. They have Ignition coils instead of transformers to generate pulses and, they generate over 25000v (25kv) are fatal or cause to parallelize animals and people. If over 1A on the fence no-load situation means you are liable to a risk.
